You don't need an air tight case to fire someone ... but you need to know these factors.

In the planning to dismiss an employee, there are several things to consider: If you take the time to sit the employee down, and draw them into a conversation that is not accusatory or confrontational, then they may explain what is going on with them outside work. If the employee was violent or threatening in the meeting, you can use this as substantiation in a court trial your decision was correct. In this case, you must treat this as a high-risk dismissal to cut your costs (more about this in Chapter 4). Ignoring such a request is insubordination. For misconduct, it can take a few days to several weeks. The notice has to do several things, but most of all it must obviously define the infraction, and how the business plans to respond.
